DOOH Mode in the Kiosk
DOOH (Digital Out-of-Home) refers to non-interactive content that runs on the kiosk screens and displays in the center within the cockpitOS context: videos, images, slideshows, or highlighted local content (Local Hero). The DOOH mode complements the interactive kiosk usage (wayfinding, searching, shops) with pure playback of campaigns and advertisements.
What is DOOH in the Kiosk for?
- Idle Times – When no one is interacting with the touchscreen, a playlist (videos, images, slideshows) or the Local Hero (highlighted shops, news, events, offers) plays.
- Unified Campaigns – The same content can run on multiple screens (kiosks, lobby displays).
- Local Hero – Specifically strengthens the "smaller" entities in the mall: displays shops, news, events, offers prominently on the screens (and, in the long term, reserve campaigns).
Terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| DOOH | Digital Out-of-Home – Playback of video/image/campaign on displays. |
| Playlist | A list of items (e.g., video, image, slideshow) that play in sequence. Multiple playlists can exist per center (e.g., "Idle," "Lobby"). |
| Playlist Item | An entry in a playlist: Type VIDEO, IMAGE, SLIDESHOW, or IFRAME plus display duration and optional sorting. |
| Local Hero | Highlighted local content (shops, news, events, offers) that is particularly featured on the screens – part of the Local Hero & All-Inclusive Package. |
| Idle Slot | The time period in which the kiosk has no user interaction; during this time, the DOOH playlist (e.g., slug "idle") or Local Hero is typically displayed. |
How Does it Work Technically?
- Playlists are created for each center (e.g., name "Idle-Slot Kiosk," slug
idle). Each playlist has items with type and payload (e.g., video URL, image URL). - Local Hero consists of entries per center: references to an entity (shop, news, event, offer). The player resolves these and displays, for example, images, headlines, and optionally links/QR codes.
- The kiosk (digital signage app) loads the active DOOH playlist for the center; AI Premium and AI Wayfinding no longer show a separate Local Hero bar (“At our center”) – only the playlist is displayed. Local Hero can be further maintained in the dashboard (e.g., for other displays). After touch, the display returns to the interactive kiosk interface.
Configuration in the Dashboard
- Manage Playlists: Dashboard → Digital Experience → DOOH (or area for playlists). There, create playlists (name, slug e.g.,
idle), activate them, and add items (type: VIDEO, IMAGE, SLIDESHOW, IFRAME; payload with URL(s); display duration in seconds). - Manage Local Hero: In the same DOOH area: Local Hero – create entries with entity type (shop, news, event, offer) and entity ID. Optionally overwrite the headline or image URL.
- Kiosk Template: The template determines whether and how the idle slot/DOOH area is displayed (e.g., full screen vs. fixed 16:9 slot under the header in AI Wayfinding). No Local Hero strip in the AI Premium/Wayfinding kiosk.
- AI Wayfinding: The 16:9 DOOH area under the header is always active as soon as an idle playlist exists. The fullscreen DOOH mode after inactivity is default off and can be explicitly activated in the kiosk options (as in AI Premium, when desired).
Playlist Item Types
| Type | Description | Payload (Example) |
|---|---|---|
| VIDEO | A video is played. | { "url": "https://…" } |
| IMAGE | A static image. | { "url": "https://…" } |
| SLIDESHOW | Multiple images in sequence. | { "urls": ["…", "…"], "durationPerSlide": 5 } |
| IFRAME | External website or embedded content. | { "url": "https://…", "title": "…" } |
The display duration (in seconds) is configured per item; for video, “0” can mean: entire video length.
Local Hero and All-Inclusive Package
Local Hero is the concept of strengthening local partners (shops, news, events, offers) on the screens. In the All-Inclusive Package, an optional DOOH entry can be created when setting up a Reserve & Collect campaign – either as a Local Hero entry (once reserve campaigns are supported as entity types) or as a playlist item (image/video with a link to the reserve page). Thus, the campaign not only appears as a hot pick in the kiosk and NOW! app but also on the DOOH screens.
Summary
- DOOH Mode = Playback of video, image, slideshow, and Local Hero on the kiosk/center screens, typically in the idle slot.
- Playlists = Lists of items (VIDEO, IMAGE, SLIDESHOW, IFRAME), configurable per center.
- Local Hero = Highlighted local content (shops, news, events, offers) to strengthen the "smaller" entities in the mall.
- Configuration: Dashboard → Digital Experience → DOOH (Playlists + Local Hero).
External Websites (e.g., v0 / Vercel)
Public read APIs with CORS (…/dooh/public/…) allow the same playlists to be played on an external app maintained in the cockpit — only if the center website is activated. See Developer Guide: Public API — DOOH and v0 + Cockpit.
