Translation with DeepL (Cockpit)

In the Center Profile → Tab Website, the Translation tab is available from template centers. Editors can translate German text into commonly used target languages via DeepL.

Prerequisites

  • The DEEPL_API_KEY must be set in the Dashboard environment (DeepL Pro API).
  • Free API keys from DeepL end with :fx and automatically use api-free.deepl.com.

Without a key, an error message will appear during translation.

Usage

Tab "Translation"

  1. Paste or type German text.
  2. Select target language (e.g., French).
  3. Translate → Copy the result and paste it in the appropriate page tab.

Pages with Hero (many templates)

For Page Title, Subtitle, and Description under each field:

  • Copy – Translation to the clipboard (German field content remains intact).
  • Adopt – Field is replaced by the translation (for multilingual variants or drafts).

Ree Carrée: French / Luxembourgish

  • Block Source (German) – common German source text (is saved with the Center).
  • Header & Navigation → Translations: By default, Automatically translate when saving (DeepL → FR, saved in templateContent). The website only displays these saved texts – no DeepL call per visitor page request (performant).
  • Luxembourgish: optionally take over from FR when saving (DeepL does not support LB). Adjustments in LU with the checkbox Manual maintenance protect against overwriting.
  • Optionally also Translate now / field buttons for preview before saving.

Notes

  • HTML in descriptions will be preserved as much as possible (DeepL tag_handling).
  • Translations are persisted when the website configuration is saved – not just upon visiting the live page.
  • API usage runs through the dashboard (POST /api/translate or Auto-Translate during Save), the key is not in the browser.
