Translation with DeepL (Cockpit)
In the Center Profile → Tab Website, the Translation tab is available from template centers. Editors can translate German text into commonly used target languages via DeepL.
Prerequisites
- The
DEEPL_API_KEYmust be set in the Dashboard environment (DeepL Pro API). - Free API keys from DeepL end with
:fxand automatically useapi-free.deepl.com.
Without a key, an error message will appear during translation.
Usage
Tab "Translation"
- Paste or type German text.
- Select target language (e.g., French).
- Translate → Copy the result and paste it in the appropriate page tab.
Pages with Hero (many templates)
For Page Title, Subtitle, and Description under each field:
- Copy – Translation to the clipboard (German field content remains intact).
- Adopt – Field is replaced by the translation (for multilingual variants or drafts).
Ree Carrée: French / Luxembourgish
- Block Source (German) – common German source text (is saved with the Center).
- Header & Navigation → Translations: By default, Automatically translate when saving (DeepL → FR, saved in
templateContent). The website only displays these saved texts – no DeepL call per visitor page request (performant). - Luxembourgish: optionally take over from FR when saving (DeepL does not support LB). Adjustments in LU with the checkbox Manual maintenance protect against overwriting.
- Optionally also Translate now / field buttons for preview before saving.
Notes
- HTML in descriptions will be preserved as much as possible (DeepL
tag_handling). - Translations are persisted when the website configuration is saved – not just upon visiting the live page.
- API usage runs through the dashboard (
POST /api/translateor Auto-Translate during Save), the key is not in the browser.
